2011 WWE Draft time. Future endeavours abound

The 2011 WWE Draft is coming next week and future endeavours are bound to follow in its wake. Yes, it's that time of the year so what's your thoughts on who's staying, moving to Raw, moving to Smackdown, or just getting moved out of the company (aka future endeavoured).

Apparently, John Cena is making an appearance on Smackdown soon. Is that a possible Draft spoiler? What about guys and gals we haven't seen lately on Raw or Smackdown? How about R-Truth's title spot loss to John Morrison?

Post your thoughts in the comments...

Regards, Cliff

No Extreme Rules for Truth

While in filming in Europe R-Truth has lost his spot at Extreme Rules in a match against John Morrison. It will now be The Miz (c) vs John Morrison vs John Cena in a Steel Cage Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship.

This sucks for R-Truth but to be honest I have never been a very big fan of his. I like him, I just don't mark out to him in the same way as some of the others and I don't know why either. The fans love his (what's up) song, he's an okay wrestler, but he's just missing something and it's hard to nail what that is. Anyway, the truth be told... there's no Truth... not in a title match at Extreme Rules anyway. Oh well.

Last Week was Edge Week

Come WWE sunday (we get Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and the soon to be doomed Superstars on one super duper wrestling fun packed day) the only thing that really stood out from the line up was Edge's retirement.

Sure Matt got a big fat Stone Cold boot out of Tough Enough. Too bad, that guy had talent but lacked any balls. He was way too nice for his own good. Oh well...

Raw was a dudd this week except Edge's heart wrenching announcement, let's skip NXT and Superstars, and well Smackdown didn't do it for me either except for the battle royal where Christian deservedly won his number one contender's match at Extreme Rules (PPV). Didn't Christian already win his number one contender's spot? Why he has to prove to everyone again that he deserves his spot is beyond me, but alas he came out victorious.

After Christian's win Edge came out to the ring, the televised feed finished soon after but filming didn't. WWE.com has an exclusive video showing Edge giving his final final goodbye speech. The guys and gals from the locker room came out including Triple H. Hugs were everywhere. Here's some of the highlights...
  • Edge, "Smackdown has always felt like my show"
  • He specifically thanked Rey Mysterio, Undetaker, Kane (didn't want to ruin his reputation), Regal, Marty (even though he's a bit of an idiot)
  • He didn't want to thank Booker T because he'd have to do an Edge-a-roonie but it's not possible anymore
  • The crowd chanted "Hall of Fame" for Edge many times
  • Thanking Vickie Guererro got massive boos from the crowd, "She does such an awesome job. I'm thanking her from the heart and you still boo her"
  • He thanked Christian and covered their history over the years. He even asked his fans, "If there's any Edge heads out there, get behind him [Christian]"
  • And a final thank you went to his fans
  • He gave a big hug to his mum and left
There's more but it's probably better if you can catch it while you can at the link below...

Edge's retirement from the WWE

We don't get WWE live here in New Zealand but it didn't take long for the news of Edge's retirement to travel down under.

I jumped online and found video after video regarding his announcement. It was heart wrenching watching him spill the truth to the crowd. He covered his history and love of the business. The fact that injuries do occur in the ring is something a lot of people still don't understand. Many think it's all fake but, of course, we know better.

I loved the fact the WWE gave Edge his dues and didn't interrupt his speech. No one came out, no one attacked him, he wasn't squashed or humiliated, he just told the truth and left. Done. Beautiful. That's the way most superstars should go out.

You know, it's funny in a way. Lenaire and I were just talking today about who would be "future endeavoured" which is a line that comes with the majority of the WWE's release statements. For example, "we wish him [them or her] well in all their future endeavours" blah, blah, blah. I'm not trying to say Edge was "future endeavoured" of course. He's way too popular for that.

Anyway, I really hope we get to see Edge again in some capacity, and well, I wish him well in all his future endeavours, but... that better be in the WWE dammit!

Colour commentator? Raw General Manager (yeah, why not, despite attacking it earlier)?

Wrestlemania 27 Poll Results

Here are the results for the Wrestlemania polls held in the build up to the big event. As you can see (below) we didn't get many but it's quality we're after and that's what counts.

Of the results it was interesting to note that everyone was divided right down the middle between The Miz vs Cena and Triple H vs The Undertaker for who would take the main event. As it turned out Miz and Cena took it but HHH and Taker probably would've stolen the show if it weren't for The Rock.

Moving on, there was an unresounding 85% in favour of Taker retaining his streak and as we now know he did although only just. Does that mean he's going to lose next year when they have a rematch? What do you think?

Finally, there was no doubt the best feud in the build up to Wrestlemania was The Rock and Cena. This was the match everyone wanted to see and I guess we will in a year's time.

So that's our Wrestlemania poll wrapup. Post your thoughts. Results below.

Regards, Cliff.

WM27: Wrestlemania Skits

There were three silly skits during tonight's Wrestlemania. This excludes the Hall of Fame inductees and Wrestlemania Fan Access timeslots. Here's a summary of the skits below:

1) Snoop Dogg Auditions
Snoop needed help finding talent for his tour so with Teddy Long (Smackdown GM) they auditioned some of the WWE Superstars
  • William Regal's rap was thrown out for not being "gangsta" enough but I liked it. Haha. Next!
  • The Great Khali and Beth Phoenix (?) singing "Summer Nights" from the movie Grease, I think. It was not good anyway. Next!!
  • Zack Ryder singing Friday (I hate that song) is hit over the head by Rowdy Roddy Piper. Next!!!
  • Chris Masters doing his pecs thing and Toshi Yatsu singing "We will rock you". Next!!!!
  • Hornswoggle would've won but since he can't talk he was disqualified. After Teddy and Snoop left Hornswoggle broke out into a rap proving maybe he can't talk but just rap (or maybe not).

2) The Rock's "Special Moment"
The Rock was chatting to Eve backstage and promised he'd give a special magical moment to the next person to walk around the corner. Not surprisingly it turned out to be May Young who naturally wanted "The People's Struddle". Haha.

The next person turned out to be Stone Cold. Both guys were very stand-offish and looked like they could bust into a fight any second now. Nothing happened but seeing both guys on screen after so long was really awesome!

3) Cena's Number One Fan
The Rock was told Cena's number one fan wanted to see him. This turned out to be Pee Wee Herman.
Somehow Pee Wee was persuaded to change sides to Team Bring It. Oh well.

All-in-all these were a bit silly and took time away from the matches, some of which could've been a little longer. I guess having something funny to break up the tension of all the action is what they're after in these skits. In any case, they were much better this year. Nice and short too. You can't go wrong with The Rock though and I guess they needed to incorporate him more since he is the Guest Host.

WM27: The Miz (c) vs John Cena Result

This was clearly the main event. The Miz and John Cena's build up has been solid. The Rock only fuelled what would be the stand out match in terms of storyline but can they live up to the hype?

It starts off with a few promos showing the histories for The Miz and John Cena growing up and finally coming to the WWE. They're both good but I think Cena wins this one. Cena's entrance has a freaking choir and sermon. How do you beat that?

As The Rock calls him, Mr "Fruity loop" Cena is out sporting some new colours (a red variation of his "Never Give Up" clothing line) and I like it. But wait, there's no Rock?

BTW: Wrestlemania will be hosted in Miami next year on April 1st. Will The Rock will inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Miz is doing well but this is no Taker/HHH match. It's quite vanilla so far. My hope is that the Rock comes out soon. Miz is getting bigger cheers than Cena. That's odd. Cena with the inside cradle but The Miz breaks out. Cena with the STF but Miz gets to the ropes. Cena breaks out of a near fall from eating an exposed turn buckle. Close. Alex Riley has been trying to assist The Miz. Cena with the AD but the ref's out. Come on Rocky!!! That's your cue. Alex has a brief case. Cena's down. Miz with the 1,2.. no. Cena breaks out. Alex is interrupting the ref but this works against him. Miz grabs the briefcase and knocks Alex down instead. Miz is almost pinned. This is getting better. Still no sign of The Rock. Boo. Both guys are outside the ring and have been counted out. WTF? Miz retains? Stealing ideas from TNA much.

Finally, The Rock's music. He's out and taking off his jacket. That means trouble. Haha.

He's in the ring but The Raw GM has an announcement. The Rock reads the message Cole-style but stops at the GM's portion where he says "As The Raw General Manager I think...". It doesn't matter what he thinks!!! Go Rock. The Rock changes the match to a no disqualification and no count out match.

The match has restarted and The Rock isn't finished. He hits Cena with The Rock Bottom before exiting for ringside. Haha. Miz takes advantage and gets the 1,2,3. Go Miz!

Winner: The Miz

But The Rock isn't done. He runs back into the ring with a flurry of slaps to the WWE champion (The Miz) and ends it with the People's Elbow. Woohoo!

There's no sign of Cena so I guess that's it for this live report of Wrestlemania XVII (27). Thanks for reading and I hope you had fun.

WM27: Six Man Mixed Gender Tag Match (with Snooki)

Snooki is a favorite amongst those youngin' types. Personally, I find it hard liking attention whores who don't actually do anything but then I guess she's in the perfect venue for that. If you're in the WWE you're an attention whore that gets paid for it. Admit it, there's no room for shy people in the WWE. Now, Snooki on the other hand isn't a wrestler but then a few of the WWE's Divas didn't start out that way either so maybe there's hope for her yet.

In this match Snooki's teamed up with Trish Stratus and John Morrision to take on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool (Layla and Michelle McCool with Vickie Guerrero)

I guess for WWE's goals she's perfect for them. She'll bring in her viewers while the already WWE-inducted like myself will watch regardless albeit in pain and anguish. Haha.

Okay, the match is a quick one and while typing this Snooki's in the ring now and getting booed like crazy. She does a few cart wheels slamming Michelle McCool into the corner post. She does a final flip and pin for the 1,2,3.

Winner: Snooki (Trish Stratus and John Morrison)

She did a good job for a non-wrestler and she was a lot better than Michael Cole who has been in the wrestling business for years albeit as a commentator but then she wasn't in the ring as long. Well done.

WM27: Triple H vs The Undertaker Result

Triple H (HHH) is out first. Rumours on the net claimed he'd come out to Metallica's "nothing else matters". They played a song but it definitely didn't sound like the version I know. There's a lot of 19-0 signs out. This is my hope as well.

Now I'm a little concerned the diva's match gets priority over this one. Divas? Snooki? Come on!!! BTW: Does that mean Snooki could get inducted into the Hall of Fame one day? Yes, unfortunately it does.

Okay, HHH is in the ring and signalling this will be 18-1 but he doesn't look confident. Maybe he's just gutted they didn't main event. I guess The Rock, Cena, and that other guy.. haha.. I mean.. The Miz won the bid for the big one. When this happens The Undertaker usually puts on an even better match. My guess is this will be awesome but I'm still wary of HHH's in-ring storytelling.

JR and Jerry are commentating and it's like the good old days. I love it!

This is a no holds barred match meaning everything is legal. There's no count outs and no disqualifications. There have been some big moves like a suplex from the table onto that lightly padded ground. Ouch. Flattened tables are scewered everywhere. Taker choakslams HHH but he breaks out. Close. Undertaker and HHH chants are going. Last ride, no, pedigree, no. Lots of counters. HHH almost gets the 1,2,3. Another close one. They're looking tired and we're only 5-10 minutes in. HHH has a chair but gets a boot to the face. Now Taker has the chair and slaps it over HHH's back. It's warped now. Ouch. HHH hits Taker with a Pedigree! 1,2.. no. Taker breaks out!

Now Taker hits back with the Last Ride. HHH breaks out. Taker's not happy. Tombstone time? Yes! But HHH breaks out of that. WTF?!!! How? How? How? Haha, this is great! Taker's got the steal chair. This can't be good. Tombstone on the steal chair is countered with a Pedigree on the chair instead. Taker's a bit floppy. They're both losing strength but no one wants to lose especially Taker.

HHH hits Taker with two more Pedigrees but Taker breaks out of both. Wow. Come on Taker! HHH hits Taker with the chair blow after blow. Taker looks like he's gone. HHH is stealing Taker's line "stay down" from last year's Wrestlemania. Chair shot to the head. Isn't that illegal in the WWE? As the son-inlaw to the owner of the company I doubt they'll be any consequences for him.

This isn't looking good for Taker. Boo HHH! Now HHH has the tombstone on Taker. Oh crap! 1,2... Taker breaks out. YES!!!

HHH has the sledge hammer now. Is it over for Taker? No, he somehow gets HHH into the Hell's Gate submission move. HHH is stuck and no matter what he tries it's game over for him. The ref calls it.

Fireworks and 19-0 hit the stage. That was a very good match.

Winner: The Undertaker.

Taker's doing a great job selling his injuries unless it's not an act. He took a lot in that match. Both guys did. Thank you!

WM27: Michael Cole vs Jerry The King Lawler Result

Booker T and Jim Ross (JR) are guest commentating tonight starting with this match between Michael Cole and Jerry The King Lawler. JR in particular gets a huge cheer from the crowd. It's been a long time since he has commentated at an event of this magnitude. Unfortunately, JR's entrance is interrupted by Michael Cole who comes out looking like a complete tool running his mouth about how old JR and Jerry are.

Jack Swagger is out soon after but his entrance is also interrupted by the sounds of smashing glass... it's Stone Cold!!! The crowd is going nuts. Woohoo!!!

Okay, Jerry's out. Cole's stalling. Swagger interrupts but is taken out. Now, Jerry's beating the crap out of a wimpering Cole inside his plastic cage. It's hilarious! I love it. Cole's in the ring now thrown in by Jerry but Stone Cold is interrupted and Swagger takes advantage. Swagger's got the ankle lock on Jerry and the tables are suddenly turned. Jerry doesn't look good and Cole takes advantage.

It's not long though before Jerry gets the upper hand again and Swagger tries to "throw in the towel" for Cole. Swagger gets in Stone Cold's face for it and is answered with a Stone Cold Stunner. The crowd is going wild. This is a nice save. We were all getting a little bored of Cole's attempt at wrestling. Phew.

Jerry finally dives off the top rope and attempts a pin but breaks out early to continue his revenge on Cole. Stone Cold loves it. This means more fighting, yeah. Finally, Cole taps out to an ankle lock by Jerry. Jerry has won! Woohoo!!!

Booker T jumps in the ring, does a spinneroonie, and tries to celebrate with Stone Cold and Jerry but is given a Stone Cold Stunner. Yeah. I guess he's done commentating tonight. Haha.

Before I can wrap this up this post the GM has a final announcement via commentator Josh Mathews. Due to Stone Cold's interference Michael Cole has been awarded the winner of the match. Boo!!! Stone Cold has time for one more Stunner and this time it's on poor Josh. Oh well. Yay!!!

Winner: Michael Cole

WM27: 2011 Hall of Fame Inductees at Wrestlemania

It's Hall of Fame inductee time at Wrestlemania XVVII (27) and they're all out on stage looking fantastic. The highlight is of course HBK, Shawn Michaels, who has his own entrance and music play. There's a few signs in the crowd saying they'll "miss" him. True!

Here are the inductees (in order of appearance):
  • Abdullah The Butcher
  • Sunny (she looks hot)
  • The Road Warriors
  • Drew Carey (he's looking thin and there were some boos from the crowd)
  • "Bullet" Bob Armstrong
  • "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
  • Shawn "HBK" Michaels

WM27: CM Punk vs Randy Orton Result

CM Punk is out. He's alone with no backup. Randy Orton has beaten up all the members of The New Core except one (Punk). After months of resentment between both guys will it all end here at Wrestlemania XXVII (27)?

CM Punk wants revenge for an injury Randy caused him months ago that put him out of a championship match. Randy wants revenge for the personal anguish Punk has put him through lately including threats to his family. It's all very personal and it's not exactly clear who the "bad guy" is. Is it Punk? Is it Randy because he made Punk this way?

Okay, the match is on.. Punk is attacking Randy's injured leg. It's a slightly slower match because of this than the others but there have been a few big moments like a super-plex (suplex) from the top-rope. Ouch.

The crowd loves Randy especially when he fires up for a quick slurry of assults. Anaconda vice by Punk and Orton looks like a goner but is saved by a last minute roll to the ropes. Randy's pumping the mat. That's usually a sign it's all over for his opponent, but is it? Randy's in the corner but falls over when running for his finishing move. It's not good for Randy. Punk's relieved but Randy's still got time to attempt an RKO. Punk cowers out of it though but not for long. Randy manages to hit Punk with a final RKO as Punk dives off the top rope for the 1,2,3.

Winner: Randy

WM27: Big Show, Santino, Kane, Kofi vs The Corre Result

Kozlov is out after an "injury" and Kofi Kingston has replaced him. The fans are going crazy. Kofi has always been a fan favorite. Okay, the match is underway. It's a quick one too. I've barely started typing this when... The Big Show has pinned Heath "Wendy" Slater after a knock-out punch. Game over! Wow.

WM27: Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio Result

Cody Rhodes has not been a happy chappy ever since Rey Mysterio hit him with his knee brace a few months ago. Cody is no longer the "Dashing Cody Rhodes" he was before but now the Phantom of the Opera / Kato of wrestlers. His own self-loathing has fuelled this feud into what it is now at Wrestlemania XXVII (27).

The match itself is pretty solid. The highlight would be when Rey donned Cody's mask and attacked him with it. It was comical and I loved how Michael Cole ripped on Rey's use it when it was okay for Cody to use it "legally".

Rey hit Cody with a 619 and splash but unfortunately couldn't get the final win. Cody pinned Rey after he hit him with his knee brace and the "cross roads".

WM27: Alberto Del Rio vs Edge Result

Alberto Del Rio and Edge had a great match but unfortunately destiny was not on Del Rio's side tonight at Wrestlemania XXVII (27). Edge has retained his World Heavyweight Championship after barrage of counters and a spear.

WM27: Royal Rumble winner Alberto Del Rio first match for Wrestlemania?

Alberto Del Rio, this year's Royal Rumble winner, has kicked off Wrestlemania with its first match. The Royal Rumble winner has always been billed as main eventing Wrestlemania. To me, "the main event", isn't the same as the first match. The main event is traditionally the last match. In a Wrestlemania it could be the last and also the second-to-last matches but the first? Not really.

Now I know Alberto isn't quite true main event status yet and this feud has been a little lackluster but I at least expected this to be the second or third to last match.

What do you think?

WM27: The Rock ignites Wrestlemania

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back after seven long years. Yes, that's right! He's here, it's Wrestlemania XXVII (27) time and I'm reporting this LIVE from my computer (via Satellite), of course.

He's out and is opening the show with a few Cena disses and flurry of our favorite Rocky catch phrases. The crowd are popping like crazy to:
  • Finally, the Rock has come back to Atlanta
  • Finally, the Rock has come back to Wrestlemania
  • When I say Wrestle, you say Mania
  • If you smell what The Rock is cooking
If you can name it he probably said it and every minute of it was fantastic! In the span of 5-10 mins he got nailed the job of Guest Host perfectly.

What did you think? And let me know if I missed something above.

Keri Hilson sings America the Beautiful at Wrestlemania

Keri Hilson has opened Wrestlemania XXVII (27) with "America the Beautiful" looking incredibly hot. In fact I didn't recognize her at first. Maybe it was the blonde hair and fair complexion.

Looks aside, I'm not American but I can tell she didn't mess up the song. There were a few trills here and there which I hate with a passion but it was good none the less. She remembered the words which is always a good thing unlike Christina Aguilera's performance at the Super Bowl but let's not go there. This is Wrestlemania baby!

So, what did you think of her performance?
