CM Punk suspended after Raw outburst

The interwebs have been going crazy about CM Punk's outburst during tonight's live Raw. In what seemed like a half-promo and half-outburst he barrated everyone from John Cena, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to Vince McMahon, Stephanie McMahon and Triple H. He was on fire and it showed. He's clearly angry about how he's been treated and proclaimed himself the "Best Wrestler in the World".

He's been officially suspended according to WWE.COM and it looks like we won't be seeing him on July 17th afterall.

Stone Cold Steve Austin, Chris Jericho and others have been praising Punk's promo but is it really the end for his WWE career or is this a work to get everyone talking?

Post a comment and let us know your thoughts!

[UPDATE / SPOILER]
This is fresh in from Lenaire, but apparently part of next week's Raw was filmed today as they'll be in Australia and New Zealand next week (woohoo)...

The Usos perform the Haka on Smackdown

Last week The Usos - Jimmy Uso (aka Jonathan Fatu) and Jey Uso (aka Joshua Fatu) - performed the Haka during a taping of Smackdown. The Haka was described by the commentators as a polynesian "war dance" performed by their ancestors. The Usos are Samoan but the Haka is of Maori origin - the difference is about the same as Americans to British. While they're distant cousins they're also far enough removed for it to be an insult of sorts.

The Haka has been used by New Zealand's national rugby team, the All Blacks, for over 100 years. Samoa's own team Manu Samoa have developed their own "war dance" and it's this dance The Usos should've performed as Samoans. Granted it's not as famous as the Haka but at least they wouldn't be offending anyone by using it.

The WWE has never been good at cultural sensitivities - take national anthems for example (every other anthem is either sung badly or interrupted) and other nationalities are almost always portrayed as parodies.

As a young Maori myself and seeing The Usos perform the Haka I was actually divided. On one hand it was great seeing the Haka performed on an international stage but on the other hand it was done by two guys who shouldn't be doing it. Did they even have permission? I have to ask.

While the Haka has been led by non-Maori before like Tana Umaga, a Samoan, as the Captain of the All Blacks (2004-2005) he had the resources here in New Zealand that The Usos do not by being overseas.

Now that the damage has been done I only hope the WWE do something about it; think before they just go ahead and do something "cool", and more importantly... get the proper permission, consultation and advice first. That just makes sense doesn't it?

Regards, Cliff.

Tough Enough: Final

I just watched the final of Tough Enough where Stone Cold Steve Austin announced the winner during a Raw live event. The WWE contract was given to big Andy "Silent Rage" Leavine so unfortunately for all you Luke Robinson fans out there his run's over, or is it?

Tough Enough has had more than two contestants signed to contracts before so it's possible some of the eliminated contestants could be back in the future. Rima Fakih was a favorite amongst the trainers, Jeremiah Riggs was close to winning but his technical skills failed him in the quarter final last week, I liked Ryan Howe's look but the trainers (especially Bill) just didn't like him.

Who would you like to see in the WWE?

Smackdown: Christian's heel turn

I didn't really watch last week's Smackdown but I enjoyed Christian's heel turn at the end of the main event.

I'm really looking forward to how they handle his character now and whether he'll get the "push" he deserves. Sure they gave him the World Heavyweight title (for less than a week) but will they finally give him a decent feud and title run?

I certainly hope so.

BTB: Tough Enough and NXT

10 Words for Raw

Patriotism, R-Truth, Punk, Riley, Cole, Kharma, Dream Sequences, Zack, R-Truth

Lets break it down...

1) Patriotism
The WWE is the notorious for their patriotism but why oh why do we (the rest of the World) have to put up it?! Tonight's Raw started with a 5 min clip dedicated to it for Memorial Day. I get that but you know it doesn't have to be a special holiday for the patriotism card to come out. It could equally be just any Monday. Thumbs down (but only because they keep doing it).

2) R-Truth
Being a heel has really paid off for R-Truth like his little Cena rant at the start of this week's Raw. He's now in the main event against John Cena. That's never happened before so it shows they're actually paying him some attention. He probably won't win but I hope they keep going with it. Give someone else a chance for once and I hope that's, the truth, R-Truth. Thumbs up.

3) Punk
CM Punk and Rey Rey did a nice counter-counter move where Punk had Rey up for the GTO, Rey countered out of it, and then Punk then got the win. I can't remember how but it was nice. Thumbs up.

4) Riley
Alex Riley has been "rehired" by the Raw GM and he's now rocking an entrance video and music. It's very green and HHH-ish. I like it. His showdown with Michael Cole was good too. He's coming into his own. Thumbs up.

5) Cole
Michael Cole downplayed his arrogant character last week after his loss to Jerry Lawler but he seems to be back. I actually like his heel character and I'm glad it's toned down (no more Cole mine). Thumbs up.

6) Kharma
I didn't know Awesome Kong from her TNA days but as Kharma she did a great job on the mic tonight addressing her pregnancy, having to leave the WWE for a year, and taking on the Bella Twins in a war of words. Thumbs up girl. Stuff being a Diva you're a Superstar!

7-8) Dream Sequences
Would the WWE please stop ripping off our ideas please. LOL. If you haven't seen our BTB show then you're missing out. Thumbs down (for copying) / Thumbs up (for copying).

9) Zack
Zack Ryder made a short appearance just before the main event. John Cena did a little hand gesture thing. The thing is I didn't like Ryder before but he's grown on me since he sang Friday at Wrestlemania and Bieber's Baby on YouTube. Thumbs up.

10) R-Truth
The guy gets a double mention. This time for the main event. He did a really good job. Winning by countout was a good touch too to keep the feud going. I'll also give a half mention to the Cena fans (father and son) who had a drink thrown at them by R-Truth and apologized to by Cena. Wow, they're lucky. Haha. Two thumbs and a half up.

Regards, Cliff.

Tough Enough: Final Three

Lets just skip to the end. Jeremiah was eliminated in this week's Tough Enough. Wow! Big surprise there. Who would've thought big "silent rage" Andy would make it this far. Certainly not me!

Granted WWE love big guys and Andy has a look they'd love but his attitude is a bit off and the WWE is all about attitude. To throw Jeremiah out now only confirms Luke for the win. Had they removed Andy it'd be a tough enough (pun intended) guess for the win but now it's a given - Luke will take it out. If Andy wins wow that would really surprise me. I'd also give Andy less than a year in the WWE before he's "future endeavoured". I hope I'm wrong and that's really up to him so I guess we'll see. In any case, who will win Tough Enough? My money's still on Luke.

Anyway, stay tuned for the latest BTB episode where we talk about Tough Enough (also NXT) and who we think will win the WWE contract. I should note we recorded it a long time ago and two of our picks have been eliminated but it's a good watch so check it out!

Regards, Cliff

10 Words for Smackdown

Sin Cara, Chavo, Cody, AJ, What's her name, Christian, Sheamus

The Run Down...

1-2) Sin Cara
Sin Cara continues to impress me with his silky smooth moves and in-ring ability. "Thumbs Up" baby. Lets segway this into the next point...

3) Chavo
For godsake give Chavo a decent feud against Sin Cara. Let him win at least once to show he's a chalenge rather than losing in every challenge or move Sin Cara onto someone else. This feud makes Chavo look weak like a little Chihuahua - all bark and no bite. I say change that WWE. "Thumbs Down" (not to Chavo but to the powers that be).

4) Cody
His new "evil" gimmick started off great, it's been a good run, but it's getting a little old now. It's a lot better than his "dashing" character and the paper bag thing has been funny but I think it's time to move on. "Thumbs Down".

5) AJ
Aaaah, my favorite competitor from NXT Season 3 despite losing to that other chick - what's her name. Yeah, what's her name is on Smackdown too now with AJ as a tag team but lets get back to the point. Based solely on AJ's wrestling, ahem, skills I think she's hot, I mean, great and fully deserves a "Thumbs Up". Oh yeah.

6-8) What's her name
How did she win NXT Season 3 exactly? AJ was the sure win. I'm just glad AJ's got a job. Sweet. "Thumbs Down" to what's her name for just not being memorable. What's her name again?

9) Christian
This one comes from Lenaire, a hardcore "Peep", and also myself. Christian should've won the main event. He deserves a "Thumbs Up". Now, talking about the main event lets move onto the next point...

10) Sheamus
Randy Orton and Sheamus had one of the most boring feuds ever on Raw and now for some reason they've transferred that energy to Smackdown. Sheamus won the number contender's match against Christian and Mark Henry tonight and now you can see why I'm not a happy chappy. Lenaire and me both. Anyway, why oh why do we have to go through all that again. It's so predictable. Please change this WWE. Big Ass "Thumbs Down"

And that's a wrap!

Regards, Cliff.

This Week on Raw in 10 Words

Good: Jerry, Miz-Riley, R-Truth, Hitman. Bad: Kharma. RIP: Savage.

So there it is, what I liked about Raw this week in no more than 10 words. Make sense? No?! Okay, here's the run down...

1-2) Good: Jerry
Raw started with Jerry "The King" Lawler boasting about his win over Michael Cole at the "Over The Limit" PPV and that the feud is now finally over. I hope that's true even though I've enjoyed it. Cole is great on the mic but he's just a terrible wrestler so I won't miss his in-ring skills. Jerry did a great job talking about the match so in my books this was "Good".

3-4) Miz-Riley
The Miz and Riley broke out into a full brawl after Riley was fired for The Miz's title loss at "Over The Limit" and subsequent title rematch revoked by the Anonymous Raw General Manager. The brawl itself was fun and the crowd loved it too. This segment gets a "Good".

5) R-Truth
Basically, this one comes from Lenarie. She likes the "new" R-Truth and he did okay against Bret "The Hitman" Hart in a war of words so he also gets a "Good".

6) Hitman
Bret gets this one for using his "Figure Four" finisher on CM Punk as a special referee while Rey Mysterio did a "West Coast Pop" on Punk's head for the pin and win. Nice combo and therefore "Good".

7-8) Bad: Kharma
Kharma is preggers (pregnant) so they had to write her character out of the show. How did they decide to do that? By having her breakdown in the ring while surrounded by all the Divas. No fighting and like... WTF? This easily gets a freaking "Bad".

9-10) RIP: Savage
WWE played a clip remembering "Macho Man" Randy Savage right before the Main Event. It was a touching clip and well done. Good on you WWE. RIP Randy. We'll miss you!

Regards, Cliff

RIP "Macho Man" Randy Savage

Lenaire's been going on all week about "Macho Man" Randy Savage's passing so I thought I'd ask for her view on the matter. Cue Lenaire...
My first reaction when I heard that Randy Savage was dead was 'OMG that can't be true'. But after just a couple of google and twitter checks the tragic news was confirmed. And I was completely shocked and well, a bit devastated. You see Randy Savage was always one of my favourite wrestlers. Even though I never seem to have had him in my top 10 lists, he was actually the one who probably had the most influence on me as a wrestling fan.

As an impressionable young girl (very young) I remember Randy Savage as the guy with the eye blinding outfits (yes we had colour tv). But I remember him best as the guy who could deliver the best promos in the world... even though I really had no idea what he was talking about some of the time.

Randy Savage was the guy who made you want to watch wrestling. You didn't have to know the technicalities of what was going on in the ring, you just knew there was a story being told and the match helped to create the story, embellish the story or lead the story to its best conclusion. The guy was amazing on the mic and for me he was the best in the business. All good talkers in pro-wrestling owe a debt of gratitude to Savage. Even now when I hear the Rock speak, I hear Macho-madness behind his words - ooh yeah!

But he wasn't just a talker, the guy could wrestle. I'll be taking some time this weekend to sit down to watch some of his greatest matches - especially WM III against Steamboat and WM V with the Megapowers. They stand alone as not only great Macho Man matches, they are among the best wrestling matches ever.

So in Below the Belt videos when I talk about a wrestler needing to have charisma, to be good on the mic and to be able to deliver both in and out of the ring, I really mean they need to be like Randy Savage. They need to keep me spellbound just like Macho Man did back when I was a little girl.

When WWE induct him into the Hall of Fame in 2012 I will be watching, probably in the middle of a pool of tears. There is no one else in this business who deserves it more. Thank you Macho Man Randy Savage - may you Rest in Peace.
Thank you Lenaire for sharing your thoughts and thank you "Macho Man" Randy Savage for all the good times - OH YEAH.

Regards, Cliff

Tough Enough: Charisma (5/27)

Tough Enough has been a really good show from the get-go and this week didn't disappoint.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson made an appearance in one of the hardest skill's challenges to date, charisma, and in this challenge the contestants had to cut a promo. AJ cut the best promo with many of the others falling flat (I think Ryan did the best promo overall but he was eliminated ages ago). It's just too bad the judges have had it out for AJ and sure enough he was in the bottom three yet again (his second or third time) so it was see ya later AJ time! Christine was also eliminated for cutting the worst promo of the competition. Is it just me but I found her really annoying?! Maybe it was her happy-go-dipsy "blonde" attitude but the judges seemed to love her. A bit like they did Rima. Huh?

Anyway, we're down to the final three contestants and according to the ending credits next week will have the "final elimination". Does that mean it's final time? Easy money would be to bet on Luke taking the WWE contract win but Lenaire thinks Jeremiah will. Andy "Silent Rage" seems the most unlikely but I guess we'll find out next week who's in and who's out.

Regards, Cliff.

OTC: BTB Season 3

BTB Season 3 update

Sure some stuff has happened in the WWE world but frankly most of it sucks so lets just skip to the news you came here to find out about - Below The Belt (BTB) Season 3.

I've just finished Episode One of the new season which includes a whole new format. Gone are the extended and unnecessarily long intro and outros for our rather short videos (< 10 mins). Gone is the old look logo and In comes the updated one you see right here on this blog - barbed wire and all. Gone are the over 10 min long videos and heavily edited episodes - from the outset we had a timer to make sure we kept our time down and we kind of did that. So basically... Season 3 is going to be the best season ever! Pure and unadulterated. Just like me. Oh yeah.

Anyway, you stay tuned because I'll be uploading all-new episodes very soon. Cheerios :)

This Week on Raw (2/5)

It was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's birthday celebration this week on what was an otherwise standard Raw. Basically, anything with The Rock in it was gold. The intro, Michael Cole asking for an apology from The Rock, the Mae Young skit (has she sampled the People's Strudle yet? Haha), the ending with Vince McMahon and the "Coming Home" clip were as The Miz would put it... AWESOME.

Other than that the matches were pretty forgettable. Miz and Cena ended disappointingly. I fully expected Miz to win it back but nope. I guess they were saving a version of that idea for Smackdown. Poor Christian but we'll get to that in a few days when Smackdown airs here in New Zealand.

As for now, stay tuned for the lastest (as in last and not the latest) in sports entertainment wrestling news. Oh yeah.

Regards, Cliff.

BTB Season 3 in the bag!

We've just finished filming Below The Belt (BTB) Season 3 and it's now in the bag (done). Lenaire, Michael, and I covered a lot of topics ranging from Wrestlemania 27 / 28, Extreme Rules, The WWE Draft / Supplementary Draft, and more. Stay tuned for these episodes they're gonna rock!

Regards, Cliff.

BTB Season 3 coming soon!

Part of the reason why Below The Belt (BTB) has been on an extended hiatus is because... it's just not the same without our good buddy Michael. He's been busy working on a year long tour of the world doing some PR and community projects. While in Australia he had some down time and decided to make a short stop-over here in good old New Zealand. Lenaire and I have caught up with him and tomorrow we'll be recording a few episodes of your favorite show - Below The Belt.

We won't have much time tomorrow and it could be months or years (see below) before we catch up again to film more episodes but I know we'll keep you salivating. Oh yeah. We're that damn good.

Anyway, the BTB crew have all pledged to attend Wrestlemania 30 in a few years. The WWE have traditionally held every tenth Wrestlemania in New York so hopefully they'll stick to that plan. We'll definitely film more episodes then but in the meantime...

Stay tuned for your favorite YouTube wrestling commentary show coming to a PC screen near you!

2011 WWE Draft time. Future endeavours abound

The 2011 WWE Draft is coming next week and future endeavours are bound to follow in its wake. Yes, it's that time of the year so what's your thoughts on who's staying, moving to Raw, moving to Smackdown, or just getting moved out of the company (aka future endeavoured).

Apparently, John Cena is making an appearance on Smackdown soon. Is that a possible Draft spoiler? What about guys and gals we haven't seen lately on Raw or Smackdown? How about R-Truth's title spot loss to John Morrison?

Post your thoughts in the comments...

Regards, Cliff

No Extreme Rules for Truth

While in filming in Europe R-Truth has lost his spot at Extreme Rules in a match against John Morrison. It will now be The Miz (c) vs John Morrison vs John Cena in a Steel Cage Triple Threat match for the WWE Championship.

This sucks for R-Truth but to be honest I have never been a very big fan of his. I like him, I just don't mark out to him in the same way as some of the others and I don't know why either. The fans love his (what's up) song, he's an okay wrestler, but he's just missing something and it's hard to nail what that is. Anyway, the truth be told... there's no Truth... not in a title match at Extreme Rules anyway. Oh well.

Regards, Cliff.

Last Week was Edge Week

Come WWE sunday (we get Raw, Smackdown, NXT, and the soon to be doomed Superstars on one super duper wrestling fun packed day) the only thing that really stood out from the line up was Edge's retirement.

Sure Matt got a big fat Stone Cold boot out of Tough Enough. Too bad, that guy had talent but lacked any balls. He was way too nice for his own good. Oh well...

Raw was a dudd this week except Edge's heart wrenching announcement, let's skip NXT and Superstars, and well Smackdown didn't do it for me either except for the battle royal where Christian deservedly won his number one contender's match at Extreme Rules (PPV). Didn't Christian already win his number one contender's spot? Why he has to prove to everyone again that he deserves his spot is beyond me, but alas he came out victorious.

After Christian's win Edge came out to the ring, the televised feed finished soon after but filming didn't. WWE.com has an exclusive video showing Edge giving his final final goodbye speech. The guys and gals from the locker room came out including Triple H. Hugs were everywhere. Here's some of the highlights...
  • Edge, "Smackdown has always felt like my show"
  • He specifically thanked Rey Mysterio, Undetaker, Kane (didn't want to ruin his reputation), Regal, Marty (even though he's a bit of an idiot)
  • He didn't want to thank Booker T because he'd have to do an Edge-a-roonie but it's not possible anymore
  • The crowd chanted "Hall of Fame" for Edge many times
  • Thanking Vickie Guererro got massive boos from the crowd, "She does such an awesome job. I'm thanking her from the heart and you still boo her"
  • He thanked Christian and covered their history over the years. He even asked his fans, "If there's any Edge heads out there, get behind him [Christian]"
  • And a final thank you went to his fans
  • He gave a big hug to his mum and left
There's more but it's probably better if you can catch it while you can at the link below...

Edge's retirement from the WWE

We don't get WWE live here in New Zealand but it didn't take long for the news of Edge's retirement to travel down under.

I jumped online and found video after video regarding his announcement. It was heart wrenching watching him spill the truth to the crowd. He covered his history and love of the business. The fact that injuries do occur in the ring is something a lot of people still don't understand. Many think it's all fake but, of course, we know better.

I loved the fact the WWE gave Edge his dues and didn't interrupt his speech. No one came out, no one attacked him, he wasn't squashed or humiliated, he just told the truth and left. Done. Beautiful. That's the way most superstars should go out.

You know, it's funny in a way. Lenaire and I were just talking today about who would be "future endeavoured" which is a line that comes with the majority of the WWE's release statements. For example, "we wish him [them or her] well in all their future endeavours" blah, blah, blah. I'm not trying to say Edge was "future endeavoured" of course. He's way too popular for that.

Anyway, I really hope we get to see Edge again in some capacity, and well, I wish him well in all his future endeavours, but... that better be in the WWE dammit!

Colour commentator? Raw General Manager (yeah, why not, despite attacking it earlier)?

Regards, Cliff.

Wrestlemania 27 Poll Results

Here are the results for the Wrestlemania polls held in the build up to the big event. As you can see (below) we didn't get many but it's quality we're after and that's what counts.

Of the results it was interesting to note that everyone was divided right down the middle between The Miz vs Cena and Triple H vs The Undertaker for who would take the main event. As it turned out Miz and Cena took it but HHH and Taker probably would've stolen the show if it weren't for The Rock.

Moving on, there was an unresounding 85% in favour of Taker retaining his streak and as we now know he did although only just. Does that mean he's going to lose next year when they have a rematch? What do you think?

Finally, there was no doubt the best feud in the build up to Wrestlemania was The Rock and Cena. This was the match everyone wanted to see and I guess we will in a year's time.

So that's our Wrestlemania poll wrapup. Post your thoughts. Results below.

Regards, Cliff.

WM27: Wrestlemania Skits

There were three silly skits during tonight's Wrestlemania. This excludes the Hall of Fame inductees and Wrestlemania Fan Access timeslots. Here's a summary of the skits below:

1) Snoop Dogg Auditions
Snoop needed help finding talent for his tour so with Teddy Long (Smackdown GM) they auditioned some of the WWE Superstars
  • William Regal's rap was thrown out for not being "gangsta" enough but I liked it. Haha. Next!
  • The Great Khali and Beth Phoenix (?) singing "Summer Nights" from the movie Grease, I think. It was not good anyway. Next!!
  • Zack Ryder singing Friday (I hate that song) is hit over the head by Rowdy Roddy Piper. Next!!!
  • Chris Masters doing his pecs thing and Toshi Yatsu singing "We will rock you". Next!!!!
  • Hornswoggle would've won but since he can't talk he was disqualified. After Teddy and Snoop left Hornswoggle broke out into a rap proving maybe he can't talk but just rap (or maybe not).

2) The Rock's "Special Moment"
The Rock was chatting to Eve backstage and promised he'd give a special magical moment to the next person to walk around the corner. Not surprisingly it turned out to be May Young who naturally wanted "The People's Struddle". Haha.

The next person turned out to be Stone Cold. Both guys were very stand-offish and looked like they could bust into a fight any second now. Nothing happened but seeing both guys on screen after so long was really awesome!

3) Cena's Number One Fan
The Rock was told Cena's number one fan wanted to see him. This turned out to be Pee Wee Herman.
Somehow Pee Wee was persuaded to change sides to Team Bring It. Oh well.

All-in-all these were a bit silly and took time away from the matches, some of which could've been a little longer. I guess having something funny to break up the tension of all the action is what they're after in these skits. In any case, they were much better this year. Nice and short too. You can't go wrong with The Rock though and I guess they needed to incorporate him more since he is the Guest Host.

WM27: The Miz (c) vs John Cena Result

This was clearly the main event. The Miz and John Cena's build up has been solid. The Rock only fuelled what would be the stand out match in terms of storyline but can they live up to the hype?

It starts off with a few promos showing the histories for The Miz and John Cena growing up and finally coming to the WWE. They're both good but I think Cena wins this one. Cena's entrance has a freaking choir and sermon. How do you beat that?

As The Rock calls him, Mr "Fruity loop" Cena is out sporting some new colours (a red variation of his "Never Give Up" clothing line) and I like it. But wait, there's no Rock?

BTW: Wrestlemania will be hosted in Miami next year on April 1st. Will The Rock will inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Miz is doing well but this is no Taker/HHH match. It's quite vanilla so far. My hope is that the Rock comes out soon. Miz is getting bigger cheers than Cena. That's odd. Cena with the inside cradle but The Miz breaks out. Cena with the STF but Miz gets to the ropes. Cena breaks out of a near fall from eating an exposed turn buckle. Close. Alex Riley has been trying to assist The Miz. Cena with the AD but the ref's out. Come on Rocky!!! That's your cue. Alex has a brief case. Cena's down. Miz with the 1,2.. no. Cena breaks out. Alex is interrupting the ref but this works against him. Miz grabs the briefcase and knocks Alex down instead. Miz is almost pinned. This is getting better. Still no sign of The Rock. Boo. Both guys are outside the ring and have been counted out. WTF? Miz retains? Stealing ideas from TNA much.

Finally, The Rock's music. He's out and taking off his jacket. That means trouble. Haha.

He's in the ring but The Raw GM has an announcement. The Rock reads the message Cole-style but stops at the GM's portion where he says "As The Raw General Manager I think...". It doesn't matter what he thinks!!! Go Rock. The Rock changes the match to a no disqualification and no count out match.

The match has restarted and The Rock isn't finished. He hits Cena with The Rock Bottom before exiting for ringside. Haha. Miz takes advantage and gets the 1,2,3. Go Miz!

Winner: The Miz

But The Rock isn't done. He runs back into the ring with a flurry of slaps to the WWE champion (The Miz) and ends it with the People's Elbow. Woohoo!

There's no sign of Cena so I guess that's it for this live report of Wrestlemania XVII (27). Thanks for reading and I hope you had fun.

WM27: Six Man Mixed Gender Tag Match (with Snooki)

Snooki is a favorite amongst those youngin' types. Personally, I find it hard liking attention whores who don't actually do anything but then I guess she's in the perfect venue for that. If you're in the WWE you're an attention whore that gets paid for it. Admit it, there's no room for shy people in the WWE. Now, Snooki on the other hand isn't a wrestler but then a few of the WWE's Divas didn't start out that way either so maybe there's hope for her yet.

In this match Snooki's teamed up with Trish Stratus and John Morrision to take on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool (Layla and Michelle McCool with Vickie Guerrero)

I guess for WWE's goals she's perfect for them. She'll bring in her viewers while the already WWE-inducted like myself will watch regardless albeit in pain and anguish. Haha.

Okay, the match is a quick one and while typing this Snooki's in the ring now and getting booed like crazy. She does a few cart wheels slamming Michelle McCool into the corner post. She does a final flip and pin for the 1,2,3.

Winner: Snooki (Trish Stratus and John Morrison)

She did a good job for a non-wrestler and she was a lot better than Michael Cole who has been in the wrestling business for years albeit as a commentator but then she wasn't in the ring as long. Well done.

WM27: Triple H vs The Undertaker Result

Triple H (HHH) is out first. Rumours on the net claimed he'd come out to Metallica's "nothing else matters". They played a song but it definitely didn't sound like the version I know. There's a lot of 19-0 signs out. This is my hope as well.

Now I'm a little concerned the diva's match gets priority over this one. Divas? Snooki? Come on!!! BTW: Does that mean Snooki could get inducted into the Hall of Fame one day? Yes, unfortunately it does.

Okay, HHH is in the ring and signalling this will be 18-1 but he doesn't look confident. Maybe he's just gutted they didn't main event. I guess The Rock, Cena, and that other guy.. haha.. I mean.. The Miz won the bid for the big one. When this happens The Undertaker usually puts on an even better match. My guess is this will be awesome but I'm still wary of HHH's in-ring storytelling.

JR and Jerry are commentating and it's like the good old days. I love it!

This is a no holds barred match meaning everything is legal. There's no count outs and no disqualifications. There have been some big moves like a suplex from the table onto that lightly padded ground. Ouch. Flattened tables are scewered everywhere. Taker choakslams HHH but he breaks out. Close. Undertaker and HHH chants are going. Last ride, no, pedigree, no. Lots of counters. HHH almost gets the 1,2,3. Another close one. They're looking tired and we're only 5-10 minutes in. HHH has a chair but gets a boot to the face. Now Taker has the chair and slaps it over HHH's back. It's warped now. Ouch. HHH hits Taker with a Pedigree! 1,2.. no. Taker breaks out!

Now Taker hits back with the Last Ride. HHH breaks out. Taker's not happy. Tombstone time? Yes! But HHH breaks out of that. WTF?!!! How? How? How? Haha, this is great! Taker's got the steal chair. This can't be good. Tombstone on the steal chair is countered with a Pedigree on the chair instead. Taker's a bit floppy. They're both losing strength but no one wants to lose especially Taker.

HHH hits Taker with two more Pedigrees but Taker breaks out of both. Wow. Come on Taker! HHH hits Taker with the chair blow after blow. Taker looks like he's gone. HHH is stealing Taker's line "stay down" from last year's Wrestlemania. Chair shot to the head. Isn't that illegal in the WWE? As the son-inlaw to the owner of the company I doubt they'll be any consequences for him.

This isn't looking good for Taker. Boo HHH! Now HHH has the tombstone on Taker. Oh crap! 1,2... Taker breaks out. YES!!!

HHH has the sledge hammer now. Is it over for Taker? No, he somehow gets HHH into the Hell's Gate submission move. HHH is stuck and no matter what he tries it's game over for him. The ref calls it.

Fireworks and 19-0 hit the stage. That was a very good match.

Winner: The Undertaker.

Taker's doing a great job selling his injuries unless it's not an act. He took a lot in that match. Both guys did. Thank you!

WM27: Michael Cole vs Jerry The King Lawler Result

Booker T and Jim Ross (JR) are guest commentating tonight starting with this match between Michael Cole and Jerry The King Lawler. JR in particular gets a huge cheer from the crowd. It's been a long time since he has commentated at an event of this magnitude. Unfortunately, JR's entrance is interrupted by Michael Cole who comes out looking like a complete tool running his mouth about how old JR and Jerry are.

Jack Swagger is out soon after but his entrance is also interrupted by the sounds of smashing glass... it's Stone Cold!!! The crowd is going nuts. Woohoo!!!

Okay, Jerry's out. Cole's stalling. Swagger interrupts but is taken out. Now, Jerry's beating the crap out of a wimpering Cole inside his plastic cage. It's hilarious! I love it. Cole's in the ring now thrown in by Jerry but Stone Cold is interrupted and Swagger takes advantage. Swagger's got the ankle lock on Jerry and the tables are suddenly turned. Jerry doesn't look good and Cole takes advantage.

It's not long though before Jerry gets the upper hand again and Swagger tries to "throw in the towel" for Cole. Swagger gets in Stone Cold's face for it and is answered with a Stone Cold Stunner. The crowd is going wild. This is a nice save. We were all getting a little bored of Cole's attempt at wrestling. Phew.

Jerry finally dives off the top rope and attempts a pin but breaks out early to continue his revenge on Cole. Stone Cold loves it. This means more fighting, yeah. Finally, Cole taps out to an ankle lock by Jerry. Jerry has won! Woohoo!!!

Booker T jumps in the ring, does a spinneroonie, and tries to celebrate with Stone Cold and Jerry but is given a Stone Cold Stunner. Yeah. I guess he's done commentating tonight. Haha.

Before I can wrap this up this post the GM has a final announcement via commentator Josh Mathews. Due to Stone Cold's interference Michael Cole has been awarded the winner of the match. Boo!!! Stone Cold has time for one more Stunner and this time it's on poor Josh. Oh well. Yay!!!

Winner: Michael Cole

WM27: 2011 Hall of Fame Inductees at Wrestlemania

It's Hall of Fame inductee time at Wrestlemania XVVII (27) and they're all out on stage looking fantastic. The highlight is of course HBK, Shawn Michaels, who has his own entrance and music play. There's a few signs in the crowd saying they'll "miss" him. True!

Here are the inductees (in order of appearance):
  • Abdullah The Butcher
  • Sunny (she looks hot)
  • The Road Warriors
  • Drew Carey (he's looking thin and there were some boos from the crowd)
  • "Bullet" Bob Armstrong
  • "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan
  • Shawn "HBK" Michaels

WM27: CM Punk vs Randy Orton Result

CM Punk is out. He's alone with no backup. Randy Orton has beaten up all the members of The New Core except one (Punk). After months of resentment between both guys will it all end here at Wrestlemania XXVII (27)?

CM Punk wants revenge for an injury Randy caused him months ago that put him out of a championship match. Randy wants revenge for the personal anguish Punk has put him through lately including threats to his family. It's all very personal and it's not exactly clear who the "bad guy" is. Is it Punk? Is it Randy because he made Punk this way?

Okay, the match is on.. Punk is attacking Randy's injured leg. It's a slightly slower match because of this than the others but there have been a few big moments like a super-plex (suplex) from the top-rope. Ouch.

The crowd loves Randy especially when he fires up for a quick slurry of assults. Anaconda vice by Punk and Orton looks like a goner but is saved by a last minute roll to the ropes. Randy's pumping the mat. That's usually a sign it's all over for his opponent, but is it? Randy's in the corner but falls over when running for his finishing move. It's not good for Randy. Punk's relieved but Randy's still got time to attempt an RKO. Punk cowers out of it though but not for long. Randy manages to hit Punk with a final RKO as Punk dives off the top rope for the 1,2,3.

Winner: Randy

WM27: Big Show, Santino, Kane, Kofi vs The Corre Result

Kozlov is out after an "injury" and Kofi Kingston has replaced him. The fans are going crazy. Kofi has always been a fan favorite. Okay, the match is underway. It's a quick one too. I've barely started typing this when... The Big Show has pinned Heath "Wendy" Slater after a knock-out punch. Game over! Wow.

WM27: Cody Rhodes vs Rey Mysterio Result

Cody Rhodes has not been a happy chappy ever since Rey Mysterio hit him with his knee brace a few months ago. Cody is no longer the "Dashing Cody Rhodes" he was before but now the Phantom of the Opera / Kato of wrestlers. His own self-loathing has fuelled this feud into what it is now at Wrestlemania XXVII (27).

The match itself is pretty solid. The highlight would be when Rey donned Cody's mask and attacked him with it. It was comical and I loved how Michael Cole ripped on Rey's use it when it was okay for Cody to use it "legally".

Rey hit Cody with a 619 and splash but unfortunately couldn't get the final win. Cody pinned Rey after he hit him with his knee brace and the "cross roads".

WM27: Alberto Del Rio vs Edge Result

Alberto Del Rio and Edge had a great match but unfortunately destiny was not on Del Rio's side tonight at Wrestlemania XXVII (27). Edge has retained his World Heavyweight Championship after barrage of counters and a spear.

WM27: Royal Rumble winner Alberto Del Rio first match for Wrestlemania?

Alberto Del Rio, this year's Royal Rumble winner, has kicked off Wrestlemania with its first match. The Royal Rumble winner has always been billed as main eventing Wrestlemania. To me, "the main event", isn't the same as the first match. The main event is traditionally the last match. In a Wrestlemania it could be the last and also the second-to-last matches but the first? Not really.

Now I know Alberto isn't quite true main event status yet and this feud has been a little lackluster but I at least expected this to be the second or third to last match.

What do you think?

WM27: The Rock ignites Wrestlemania

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back after seven long years. Yes, that's right! He's here, it's Wrestlemania XXVII (27) time and I'm reporting this LIVE from my computer (via Satellite), of course.

He's out and is opening the show with a few Cena disses and flurry of our favorite Rocky catch phrases. The crowd are popping like crazy to:
  • Finally, the Rock has come back to Atlanta
  • Finally, the Rock has come back to Wrestlemania
  • When I say Wrestle, you say Mania
  • If you smell what The Rock is cooking
If you can name it he probably said it and every minute of it was fantastic! In the span of 5-10 mins he got nailed the job of Guest Host perfectly.

What did you think? And let me know if I missed something above.

Keri Hilson sings America the Beautiful at Wrestlemania

Keri Hilson has opened Wrestlemania XXVII (27) with "America the Beautiful" looking incredibly hot. In fact I didn't recognize her at first. Maybe it was the blonde hair and fair complexion.

Looks aside, I'm not American but I can tell she didn't mess up the song. There were a few trills here and there which I hate with a passion but it was good none the less. She remembered the words which is always a good thing unlike Christina Aguilera's performance at the Super Bowl but let's not go there. This is Wrestlemania baby!

So, what did you think of her performance?

WHUT?! The WWE is NOT in the wrestling business

Despite a claim from WWE publicist, Kellie Baldyga, that "We [WWE] are no longer a wrestling company but rather a global entertainment company with a movie studio", blah, Blah, and BLAH! a follow-up email does little to change her original view to "we [WWE] are a global media company" instead. Apparently this comes right from the top, Vince McMahon. Cue that spooky music from the "dramatic chipmunk" video.

The fact remains

WWE Superstars is Goneburgers, Cancelled by WGN

WWE Superstars has had a short but good run having debuted on April 16th, 2009. Unfortunately WGN has announced its cancellation with the last episode airing on April 7th, 2011 - just days short of its 2nd anniversary. Shows are usually cancelled due to high cost and low ratings with the latter being the proverbial nail to the equally proverbial coffin.

For me, this cancellation comes as no surprise and here's why...

Jeff Hardy vs Sting at Victory Road '11

Wow. Now bear with me as we don't get TNA here but I just got word of the mainevent at TNA's "Victory Road" PPV and it's a doosy. The PPV was apparently really good right up until the last match. It's all over the net, the fans are not happy-chappies, and blogging like crazy! Here's my spin on it after watching a clip of it on the interwebs.

This Week on Raw (7/3)

Lenaire's been telling me all week to watch this week's Raw. She reckons it's... AWESOME. Not just one match but all of it. I'm sitting by the TV waiting for our horribly delayed coverage gasping in anticipation. I know Stone Cold's making an appearance and Lenaire's a major Stone Cold mark so I guess we'll see if this Raw is still awesome in the parts without him. Okay, Raw's on and...

This Week on WWE (28/2 - 6/3)

Raw
In regards to my previous post you should know by now who the Guest Host for this year's Wrestlemania (27) is. It's none other than... Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson. Yep! You heard it here last. Good for you!

Last week on Raw, John Cena brought back his "thug-a-nomics" darkside to what I'd call a resounding success. He outdid the Rock at his own game - talking the talk, walking the walk - on a microphone. He basically owned his candy ass.

This was the John Cena I loved (in a man-ly way of course) back in the day. The one who was angry and had so much to prove. He dissed everyone to get their attention and it worked! He's not angry anymore because he's on top of his game like all the rappers out there who rapped about living in the ghetto only to make millions and live the high life so have little to be angry about anymore. That's the PG-era for ya! Anyway...

Wrestlemania 27's Guest Host

This week's Raw (14th of February) was so good it's worth posting an article on it (it's been a while hasn't it? :p)

Anyway, if you haven't seen this week's Raw (we're delayed here in NZ by 3-4 days so you never know) it's probably best to stop reading now and come back later. I'll try to avoid spoilers but there's no guaran-damn-tee. It's tricky considering who it is, and it's a biggie! Avoid YouTube at all costs as there's spoilers galore on there. Hmm.

To start,
